Spurs were outstanding during the 1970-71 season, with the likes of Jimmy Greaves up front for Tottenham, they finished the season off strongly, in third position. Tottenham enjoyed success in all the domestic cup competitions, they reached the final of the league cup, having to beat Aston Villa at Wembley in the final, they easily dispatched the Midlands side 2-0 in the final to win the league cup. Spurs had a decent run in the FA Cup, eventually being defeated by Liverpool in the last eight.
The 1971-72 season once again saw Spurs put on a good show, their league form was impressive, finishing the season off in sixth position. They managed to reach the semis of the league cup, eventually losing against Chelsea and they once again reached the quarter finals of the FA Cup losing against Leeds United on this occasion. Spurs finest hour during the 70’s came in May 1972 as they met Wolves in the final of the UEFA Cup, Tottenham won the tie on aggregate, 3-2. The hero of the night proved to be Alan Mullery. During the first leg it was Martin Chivers who scored both of Spurs goals to provide Tottenham the early advantage, Spurs were the winners of the 1972 UEFA Cup. The 1972-73 season once again provided more silverware to the cabinet of White Hart lane, they beat Norwich 1-0 in the league cup final. They had a decent run in the league, finishing the season off in eighth position.

The following two seasons saw a huge decline in Tottenham’s fortunes, they finished the 1973-74 season off in eleventh, and the 74-75 season in a dismal 19th position. They were also dreadful in both domestic competitions, crashing out in their first match in all tournaments, in both seasons.
