Tottenham started off the 1975-76 season in brilliant form in the league, however after New Year they gradually fell. They ended the season finishing in a respectable ninth place; however they were unfortunate in the league cup as they stumbled out in the semis against a well organized Newcastle side, losing 3-1.
Disaster struck the following season for Spurs as they were awful through out the season in the league, they ended the campaign, lying rock bottom, only gaining 43 points, in turn demoting the club down to the second division. Spurs showed character the following season, being promoted, despite scraping promotion finishing third in the second tier of English football.
Their first season back in the top flight was a success, they finished in a respectful eleventh place, and they were unlucky in the FA Cup as they were knocked out by Manchester United in the quarter finals.
Spurs reached the last eight in the FA Cup once again the following season, this time losing out against West ham United. They ended the season in 14th position in the league.
