FA Cup Match: Spurs 1-1 QPR

Spurs reached the FA Cup final once again and were adamant on holding on to the trophy. In the eighth minute, Mickey Hazard, nearly gave Spurs the early advantage as Steve Archibald latched on to his floated cross and twisted a fierce shot past Hucker’s far post. Spurs produced chance after chance only to be denied by Hucker. Spurs back line were rarely troubled, due to an early injury to Rangers forward, Clive Allen. Spurs almost went down just before the end of the half. In the second half, play became bogged down in midfield, with Spurs growing more frustrated at their inability to get the ball past the splendid Hucker. Hoddle struck in the second half of extra time. Dispossessing Waddock midway inside Rangers half, he swapped passes with Roberts and finally got the ball past Hucker with a 20 yard drive that took a deflection of Currie.
Rangers replied swiftly and decisively. Six minutes later, Stainrod’s long throw was flicked on by Hazell and Fenwick headed past Clemence from near range.
Tottenham 1-1 Anderlecht

Anderlecht were the UEFA Cup holders and were keen to keep the trophy. Roared on by their impassioned supporters, Tottenham got to grips with their superior opponents, after Czerniatynski gave the Belgian’s the lead on the hour mark. Scottish international, Steve Archibald had two great opportunities and Ossie Ardiles came close to scoring the equalizer when his shot hit the cross bar. Ardiles hit the woodwork again moments later and Micky Hazard picked up the rebound and lofted the ball towards the advancing Graham Roberts, the Spurs captain charged through the Anderlecht defense and provided the ball over the line. Extra time failed to produce any more goals and the match went into penalties. Spurs won the shoot out 4-3 as Danny Thomas blasted in the decisive penalty.
Spurs were the winners of the 1984 UEFA Cup final.
