Spurs were a force to be reckoned with in the league with the likes of Ossie Ardiles and Ricardo Villa, however despite only finishing tenth in the league, the Argentines proved to be lethal in the cup competitions. Spurs crashed out in the last eight of the league cup; however their FA Cup campaign was glorious. Spurs beat Manchester City in the final 3-2, with crucial Tottenham goals coming by Garth Crooks and a brilliant winner by Ricky Villa.
Tottenham were arguably the best team in England the following season, with an all star team including Ardiles, Villa, Hoddle and Fenwick, they were outstanding in the league, finishing the season in forth position with a staggering 71 points. They received their rewards in the FA Cup as they met QPR in the final, despite the tie being forced into a replay; Spurs won it 2-1 beating their London counterparts, with Hoddle scoring in the final.
Tottenhams league form was similar the following season as they once again finished in forth place, their cup form was decent as they reached the last eight of the league cup, only being defeated by Burnely and they lost against Everton in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The 1983-94 season was a mighty success for Spurs, a decent campaign in the league, ending the season off in eighth position was certainly not the highlight. On 23rd May 1984, Spurs enjoyed their finest night in the 1980’s as they beat Anderlecht in the UEFA Cup final, despite victory being sealed via a penalty shoot out. Micky Hazard scored Spurs only goal during the 120 minutes of play, however Spurs won 4-3 on penalties.
Spurs took heart from their UEFA Cup victory the following season as they were outstanding in the league, finishing the season off in 3rd place, gaining 77 points, the points tally usually enough to win the title.
