Tottenham 4-2 Oxford
27th January 1991

This thrilling cup tie showed the best from Paul Gascoigne. Oxford showed their competitiveness early on by nearly taking the lead as Lee Nogan slashed a shot only for Eric Thorstvedt to save. With only ten minutes gone, Gascoigne made a surging run and passed a fine ball to Gary Mabbutt who scored the opener. Ten minutes later, Gascoigne headed a long ball into the path of Gary Lineker, the England striker smashed the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
On the half hour mark, Martin Foyle got a goal back for Oxford and the match was once again open.
Eraly on in the second half, Gascoigne arguably scored the best goal of his career, as he skillfully sprinted past five Oxford players, and flicked the ball into the net and gave Spurs a 3-1 lead. Spurs could have scored again immediately after as Lineker hit the bar, however with ten minutes remaining, Martin Foyle scored his second to make the score line 3-2. Spurs settled the tie with only five minutes remaining as Gascoigne surged into the box to smash the ball into the net.
