Spurs entered the 1990-91 season with full of promise, a team that reached third the previous season. They had an all star line up that included Italia 90 stars, Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne. Gascoigne’s performances were outstanding through out the season, and he was in inspirational form in the FA Cup as his brilliance in the tournament helped them reach the FA Cup final. The final proved to be a classic as Spurs won the encounter 2-1; however Gascoigne went off injured early on in the game. Tottenham finished the season off in tenth position, with Lineker scoring an impressive 19 league goals.
The following season proved to be a debacle for Tottenham as they only managed to finish 15th in the league, the departure of Terry Venables did not help as Peter Shreeves took charge at the club.
Tottenham spent £2.1 million on Teddy Sheringham at the start of the 92-93 season. Spurs spent the majority of the 92-93 season in the bottom half of the table. However after new years, they won five matches on the trot, in which they scored 16 goals, taking them briefly to sixth, however they fell down to eight by the end of the season with 59 points.
Alan Sugar appointed Ossie Ardiles as the new Spurs manager at the beginning of the 93-94 season. Jason Dozzell and Colin Calderwood joined Spurs at the start of the season, however their awful home form left the club in 15th position at the end of the season as they only managed to win 4 home matches. Tottenham faired much better away from home, winning a respectable seven away matches. Nicky Barmby’s excellent performances helped Spurs reach safety with 45 points.
