Paul Gascoigne
Gascoigne began his career with his local club, Newcastle. He was outstanding for the club and moved to Tottenham for £2.2 million in August 1988. At Spurs he was inspirational during the 1989-90 season, as his brilliant performances helped Spurs finish in third position at the termination of the season. Gascoigne’s was outstanding during the 1990-91 season as he helped Spurs win the FA Cup.
It was Gascoigne’s brilliant show in a friendly against Czechoslovakia that earned him his ticket to the 1990 world cup finals. Injury forced Gascoigne out of the international scene for nearly two years following his outstanding display during the 1990 world cup finals. Hoddle did not select Gascoigne in his squad for the 1998 world cup finals, and he was not to feature for his country again.


Gary Lineker
Lineker made his mark in the domestic football scene, while playing for Everton. He was the top goal scorer in the first division during the 1985-86 season and soon moved to Spain to play for Barcelona. In time for the 1989-90 season, Lineker was outstanding as he scored 24 goals for Spurs, helping them reach third position. He won the FA Cup with Tottenham in 1991. Lineker left Spurs at the beginning of the 1992-93 season, moving to Japan, playing for a Japanese club.
Lineker came into the spotlight of England’s national football team during the 1986 world cup finals in Mexico. He scored a famous hat trick against Poland, two goals against Paraguay and a further against Argentina, to earn the world cup golden boot.
