Leicester City began the match well as Emile Heskey had a great chance early on and Taggart also missed a fine opportunity as Ian walker made a spectacular save. Spurs improved as the half progressed and David Genola pin pointed a fine cross to Stefan Freund who shot well, however his shot was blocked. Spurs were awarded a free kick with five minutes of the first half remaining, Darren Anderton curled it in and Steffen Iverson headed down the ball which brilliantly saved by Kasey Keller. Leicester came out the better side in the early stages of the second half as Robbie Savage came near early on in the second half. Spurs stepped up a gear towards the end of the match as Iverson and Sinton both had good opportunities to win it, however it was Alan Nielsen who scored from a rebound of a Stefan Iverson shot.
