Spurs were looking to win their second league cup in four seasons against Blackburn; however that was not to be. Blackburn took the advantage in the mid stages of the first half through a goal by Matt Jansen. Spurs scored ten minutes later as their German midfielder, Christian Ziege replied in the 33rd minute and the match was all square. Blackburn had more of the play in the second half and it came to no surprise as Andy Cole put Blackburn 2-1 ahead mid way through the second half. Blackburn won the final 2-1.
